Somebody Feed Phil is just what we need for this Moment

Season 4 of Somebody Feed Phil Launches Today on Netflix

It’s been eight months since I’ve eaten in a restaurant or have boarded an airplane. I trust the same is true for you. So what fills the gap where these two relatively simple joys of life used to reside?

Phil.

The fourth season of Somebody Feed Phil launches today on Netflix. In this moment, as we are stripped of the simple pleasures of life like food and travel, Phil is chicken soup for the traveler’s soul.

More, in this stressful time politically, Somebody Feed Phil shows us the beauty of our commonality–across borders, in spite of language differences, regardless of varied cultural, political and faith traditions.

In this moment, as we are stripped of the simple pleasures of life like food and travel, Phil is chicken soup for the traveler’s soul.

Phil Rosenthal’s approach to food and travel is different than the majority of similar shows out there today. He’s kinder, more gracious, more self deprecating, more approachable and personable.

Phil’s sheer sense of wonder has the ability to transport you from that telltale indentation you’ve made on the couch to wherever he’s going and whatever he’s eating. Absent is the meanness, the polarization, the acrid hot takes we’re steeped in on a daily basis. It’s an absolutely delightful escape. Phil is worldly, but not jaded, entering into each experience with gratitude, wonder and an infectious sense of curiosity.

In his free time, Phil has also been supporting efforts to get out the vote, partnering with World Central Kitchen on a non-partisan project called, Somebody Feed the People. The effort provides meals to people at the polls, as voters in some areas have been standing in line for hours. You can donate to Somebody Feed the People here.

Yes, the election is fast approaching. And if you’re like me, you’ve spent far too many hours doomscrolling. There’s so much to be anxious about. But maybe Somebody Feed Phil is the Netflix feast we need to binge on right now–a pleasant diversion that allows us to set our devices and politics aside, and relish in the sheer escapism and joy of travel and delicious food.

The four seasons of Somebody Feed Phil are comprised of 22 episodes total. It may be just enough to give our mental health a boost, soothe our safer-at-home spirit, and get us through to election night.
